Our small town of Quitaque is a business center for the Quitaque valley with a restaurant, a variety of bed and baths, a grocery store, a bank, a gift shop, a hardware store, churches, a newspaper, a farm store, auto mechanic shops, and several other businesses. We have a vibrant small town.
Back in the 1950s Quitaque had more than 61 businesses (click here to see the list). We have fewer businesses in town today, and taking pride in our community, our local citizens have been keeping up the buildings that have become vacant over the years. But we also have several new buildings in town. In 2006 we built a new 6,000 square foot community building which is being used on a regular basis. In 2010 we built a new 5,000 square foot Tri-County Meals building which serves 3 counties and 4 towns. It serves meals 3 times a week to the elderly and needy in their homes and for $5 you can come eat lunch with us on Mon/Wed/Fri. We are in the process of rebuilding our Fire/EMS buildings. These new community service buildings have all been financed through foundation grants. We have new streets and sidewalks provided by the Texas Highway Department. So even though we have shrunk in the number of businesses over the past 50 years, we are still a vibrant little town and we ask that you please shop local.
